Guest Speaker: Tara NolanTopic: Raised Beds
Whether you have a tiny patio or a large yard, raised beds are a great option as compared to gardening directly in the ground. Benefits include improved accessibility, an extended growing season, and the opportunity to work with a better growing medium versus struggling to amend poor clay soil. Attendees of this presentation will learn more about best practices for raised bed construction and location, soil and plants; and be inspired with ideas to apply in their own garden spaces.
A gifted communicator, Tara Nolan is the author of Raised Bed Revolution, Gardening Your Front Yard, and the co-author of Gardening Complete. She is also the co-founder of the popular gardening website, Savvy Gardening (www.savvygardening.com). As well, she is a popular speaker at venues such as Canada Blooms, Royal Botanical Garden and Toronto Botanical Garden.
Our Greenhouse Committee will be offering some Tropical Plants and Succulents for sale during the refreshments/social portion of our meeting (7:30 to 8 pm). Tropicals include Croton, Diffenbachia, Dracena, Spider Plants and Tradescantia.
Please consider taking one or more home, adding a touch of spring to your indoor environment and helping us make room in the greenhouse for all the native, annual, vegetable and herb plants that need room to grow. Arrive early for the best selection.
Our Greenhouse Committee will also be collecting donations of large aluminum foil pans and clear plastic salad containers this evening to help with plant propagation and watering.
Attendance at this general meeting is free to members, $5 for non-members.
Members, please stop by the membership table this evening to pick up your 2020 membership cards.
